Yesterday, I started a series on different tips for reading. You can read the first one here.
Here is the second tip for reading.
Create time to read: Reading is not automatic. It is an activity that you have to create time for. It is engaging, consumes mental, physical, and sometimes emotional capital, hence it is not surprising that it deserves to be planned for. During the early days of my reading journey, I mostly read between 4 pm and 6 pm. It was the most convenient schedule I had in my day-to-day living. These days my reading schedule is significantly different. I am a late riser, but the first thing I do is to read some pages before I leave the bed. I begin my day with reading and the last activity I do for the day is to read a few pages too.
As a Nigerian, the closest thing that can be used to explain how one can schedule a time to read is morning devotion. Most families hold their devotions between 5 Am and 6 am, others in the evening. To become an eclectic reader, one must develop such a schedule.
Create a time to read. Ensure it is the most convenient time that allows comprehension and less distraction. Reading is not automatic, that book will not read itself. Make plans to read it. I know you are busy but just try.
