Alan Snyder took this photo at the place where the remains of CS Lewis lay. He wrote on the internet;
Fifty-eight years ago today, C. S. Lewis entered into the fullest joy he ever imagined as he saw the Lord face to face. One respondent to a survey I conducted for my book shared a desire that I believe many of us can echo:
"I long to go with others on a walking tour in heaven with Jack (as he used to do with Warnie and others) and have a good lengthy chat with this man who for years now has seemed like a good, dear friend."
I hope to enjoy one of those long walks as well.
CS Lewis died on 22nd November 1968. Scratch that, CS Lewis entered Narnia fully on 22nd November 1968.
During his earthly pilgrim, CS Lewis had the chance to write an autobiography, he titled it βSuprised by Joyβ. That was his life. This man who was born in a Christian family became a staunch atheist and became a Christian in later life became a wonderful Christian writer that many Christians owe their walk to Jesus to him. Lewis was not a pastor, he was an academic and a writer who wrote books for the public.
The debt I owe CS Lewis cannot be measured in earthly values. Lewis was responsible for clearing the philosophical, theological, and intellectual roadblocks that stood in the way of my Christianity. Beyond that, CS Lewis also passed on a very valuable gift to me; the gift of enchantment, wonder, magic! Lewis made me see Christianity in a new way, he helped me see the beauty of Christ and the things He taught and showed us.
During his earthly life, Lewis enjoyed the sweetness of great conversations and friendships with his group called βThe Inklingsβ. This set of men had another view of life and faith, and they shared that with each other. That group will produce some of the bestsellers in history. It was in such conversations that CS Lewis found the bearing to faith.
I hope that someday when I reach the other side, I will have the blessing of being part of such divine conversations. For now, I remain grateful that such a man lived here! Praise God!
A great man once walked this path. The book, and the movieβ The Chronicles of Narnia always fill me with awe. A brilliant mind and a godly soul, wherever C.S Lewis imprint is, there's rapture.
Thank God for C. S. Lewis!
