3 days ago, Archbishop Desmond Tutu joined the ancestors in the greater beyond, beginning a new journey into eternity! Men like Tutu have achieved a status that at the announcement of their deaths nearly everyone rushes to bid them farewell, it is well deserved, especially for Archbishop Tutu.
It was not about the Nobel Prize, it was not about the global acclaim he has achieved, neither is it about the fact that he was a priest. No, Tutu is globally celebrated for the kind of life he lived. Since his death I have gone on youtube to watch some of his videos, you canβt help but love the man.
During the burial ceremony of Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Tutu could still be heard in his active, energetic voice calling on Africans to give the visitors an African welcome. Just a few years before that in 2010, he had delivered another energetic speech at the One Young World summit. He was 79. He died at the age of 90.
Archbishop Tutu deployed all his energy to the quest for truth, justice, forgiveness and reconciliation. He was relentless, even in his old age he was still fighting for issues that needed his voice.
Tutuβs life and advocacy flowed from his Christian convictions, from the understanding offered through the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Christianity was his worldview.
Truth, Justice, Forgiveness, and reconciliation were tenets he learned from the Bible. He was simply living an ordinary Christian life. Tutuβs life is an inspiration for us. He is an example of what happens when a man takes Jesus words seriously.
May his life continue to inspire us and show us to Jesus.
