Apart from the fact that books are a love language, book sharing is an important way to help others. People are highly likely to read books they’ve been given as gifts.
As for you and your partner, you need to gift them books because when they become better individuals, you enjoy the trickle-down benefits. I assure you, you don’t wanna marry an unenlightened person. The growth of your partner is to your advantage in several ways.
What better way to ensure their growth than through books? Books are timeless.
Here are 6 books you should buy for your partner during this Valentine;
What Did You Expect by Paul Tripp:
What Did You Expect by Paul Tripp is a book for married couples. I know a friend who said it shouldn’t be read until after marriage. In my case, I read it before and it blessed me richly. It begins with a fundamental truth “all relationships are comprised of two imperfect people”. Wow. This is so simple yet nearly everyone forgets it. Paul Tripp deals with how this imperfection plays out in marriage and how God uses marriage to make the best out of us. You have to read this book. I and my wife read it and it made us better prepared for the coming chaos of marriage. Recently, someone close to her was experiencing some challenges, she recommended this book to that person, I just smiled. Such good stuff.
The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman
This book adds to our understanding of love, and the people we live with it. In every relationship, the happiness of one party is dependent on the happiness of the other. In other words, the only way to be happy is to make your partner happy. This book helps you understand how you will make your partner happy. It explores five key areas on how you can reach your partner. You should read it.
Martin Luther Had A Wife
This is one of the sweetest books I’ve ever read. Funny. Witty, and quite unusual. Its focus was the marriage of several prominent servants of God. Martin Luther, Billy Graham, John Wesley, Jonathan Edwards, etc. I found it to be quite revealing. It opens up on the marriage of these prominent men of God. It displays the truth that relationships are the same for everyone, whether a servant of God or a street gambler. Marriage comes with its challenges, this is how these men built or destroyed theirs. You have to read it, so you can pick the good lessons, avoid the negative ones, and prepare to leave your own legacy.
Love and Respect by Emerson Eggerichs
It focuses on two important themes. You will learn to see things differently and to take these two words seriously. Although we’ve misused these keywords, this book does an excellent work of redeeming them and showing you how it applies in your marriage. Quite a book!
How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
Dale Carnegie has become a classic for self-help folks. How To Win Friends and Influence People is recommended in different places, yet, its message is still missed nearly everywhere. I have never read a book that gave me a better understanding of human beings. This is the best! If you want to understand human beings, and your spouse indirectly, you have to read this.
The Bible
The Bible contains the heart of God for human relationships. No other book advocates for the level of love that the Bible advocates for. Husbands lay down your life for your wives, wives live in a way that your husband will want to lay down their lives for you. Let none of you hold any grudge before sunset.
And on and on.
Importantly, the Bible will save you from a lot of trouble. Believe me!
Lastly, here is a final statement on love from the Bible;
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
