While the UK crowned its King on Saturday in a beautiful ceremony, 30,000 people gathered in Omaha to listen to another Charles, Charlie Munger, and his friend Warren Buffet. Buffet has been called the βOracle of Omahaβ. He has lived up to it.
The Annual General Meeting of Berkshire Hathaway was supposed to be a boring event where executives gather to make big decisions about the company; however, Warren and Charlie have turned it into one of America's most attended business gatherings. Getting a ticket can be a herculean task.
But why? Why do so many people troop to attend this AGM while AGMs are like plaques in other organizations? The reason is simple. Warren and Charlie use these AGMS to share their wisdom and thoughts on various topics, from business to career, government, family, and finance and investing.
I highly recommend you watch some of these videos.
I have followed Warren Buffet for some years, reading and listening to his speeches and interviews. Earlier this year, I read his biography by Roger Lowenstein. I wrote a review you can read here. I found him a wise man who has lived in a way that could teach a lot, especially to this generation.
Warren is an avid reader. He reads everything. He once said;
βI think you should read everything you can. In my case, by the age of 10, I'd read every book in the Omaha public library about investing, some twice. You need to fill your mind with various competing thoughts and decide which make sense.β
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, βIf we encounter a man of rare intellect, we should ask him what books he reads.β Here are 10 books Warren Buffet recommends.
1. Business Adventures β John Brooks
2. 'The Outsiders' by William N. Thorndike, Jr.
3. 'Poor Charlie's Almanack' by Charles T. Munger
4. The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron
5. 'Tap Dancing to Work: Warren Buffett on Practically Everything' by Carol J. Loomis
6. How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
8. Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike
10. Buffett: The Making of an American Capitalist By Roger Lowenstein
The last book is a biography of Buffet, which I deeply enjoyed. You will enjoy it too. You can access the books by clicking the links.
Have a beautiful week ahead!
